RIGA

How to reach the hotel and the conference center
Taxi:
Taxi the available outside the arrival. The official fee is till 0,50 Ls/km during the day (approx 0,71 Euro per km). The embarkation charge is till Ls 1,50. (approx 2,13 Euro). Public transport:
Riga public transport system consists of bus, tram, trolleybus and taxi bus routes, which are running daily from 5:30 up to 23:30. During the nighttime there are several tram and trolleybus routes running once an hour. Bus passengers can acquire the tickets in the transport from driver. The fare of the ticket costs 0,40 LVL. Tickets for trams and trolleybuses can be obtained in “Narvessen” and “Preses Apienība” stores, as well as in “Rīgas Satiksme” offices. Fare of a one-time ticket that is purchased at the above mentioned vending points is 0,40 LVL. They can also be purchased by the driver for 0,50 LVL.
Money:
The unit of money in the Republic of Latvia is 1 Lat (1 LVL = 100 santims). The Lat is freely convertible currency. The exchange rate set by the Bank of Latvia: 1 EUR = 0.7028 LVL. You can get 5-, 10-, 20-, 50-, 100- and 500- lats banknotes, and 1-, 2-, 5-, 10-, 20-, 50- santims and 1- and 2- lats. www.bank.lv
Credit card:
Credit cards can be used in Latvia, and the most common ones are VISA International, Euro card and MasterCard. Less commonly found are American Express, Diner’s Club and Eurocheque. All of the aforementioned cards can be used to withdraw cash advances from ATMs
Shopping:
General stores: Alfa, Domina Shopping, Galerija centrs, MC2, Mols, Origo , Sky & more, Spice, Stockmann.
Markets are in each Riga part. There you can buy groceries and manufactured goods as well as peasants grown products (cucumbers, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, pork, and beef e.g.). Prices proximately are the same everywhere. Some places haggling possible. Main and the biggest is “Centrāltirgus” located in the Riga heart few minutes walk from the Old Town.

Typical souvenirs of Latvia:
- Dolls in national costume
- “Riga Black Balsam” – a historical and traditional liqueur prepared from herbs, flowers, juices and medicinal roots. This balsam you can purchase in most food stores or spirit shops
- Latvian linen – linen textile, linen clothes
- Baltic jewelers made after ancient models
- The products of “Laima” – sweets, chocolate bars, candy bars, sweet boxes

Riga’s lovely cafés and restaurants turn the city into a gastronomic paradise of Northern Europe. The large number of cafés and restaurants in the city will satisfy every visitor’s tastes and desires.
Riga wakes up to a cup of coffee and some wonderful bacon-stuffed buns, pies, which have been baked overnight. There are also other pastries, including apple bread. No one will look at you strangely if you accompany these treats with a small glass of Black Balsam liqueur. It will help you to wake up or to feel better if you are suffering.
